Although diversity, mutual understanding and respect is under siege in some parts of the world, we at Stellenbosch University (SU) know that multilingualism strengthens learning, connection and belonging among people. The SU Language Centre invites our students and staff to be part of EUTOPIA-SU Languages Week from 2 to 5 March this year – join an inspiring celebration of languages, culture and diversity, shared with like-minded people across the world.
Aimed at students and staff, Languages Week at SU is celebrated in the form of six free events, three online and three in person. In-person events include a multilingual Karaoke lunch-hour session (4 March), a language and belonging evening workshop (4 March), and an interactive Language Café evening (5 March). Online events include three lunch-hour language-learning opportunities to help you get a feel for a language you might like to explore: an isiXhosa taster course (2 March), an Afrikaans taster course (3 March), and a South African Sign Language taster course (5 March). Anyone in the world may join the online events. Bookings for the SU events are managed through Eventbrite, where you will soon find more information on all the events as well as links to register.
More international events are available online through the EUTOPIA Alliance. Institutions across the world participate in EUTOPIA Languages Week every year, creating an opportunity for staff and students from all EUTOPIA partners to attend online events during the week and to interact with each other. SU is one of EUTOPIA’s global partner universities, making it possible for us to join its core alliance of universities in Europe to create an international gateway for exchanging knowledge and culture.
Register soon to secure your spot. Venue information and links to join online will be sent after registration. If you change your mind after having registered, please let the organisers know so they can open that spot to someone else and avoid preparing unnecessarily.
