Are you in PR? Let’s elevate your writing of promotional material, in-house publications, news stories, media releases and social media posts. In this course, you will get to understand the importance of telling your story well, in language that is easy to understand, improve your writing style and learn more about effective writing strategies and techniques. You also will acquire an overview of current ethical issues in journalism and appreciate the importance of accuracy and checking facts. Enjoy learning from your peers and your passionate and competent presenter.

Presenters

Dani Favis is a teacher, teacher trainer, and learning material designer. She’s happiest when she’s facilitating language courses because it combines her favourite things: the ins and outs of communicating and supporting people in developing new skills. She’s known for her ability to make complex concepts easy to grasp, and for creating an enjoyable and encouraging learning environment.

You will learn the latest techniques for writing confidently and effectively on different social media platforms. We will consider the following:

  • Writing for conventional media, such as newspapers and radio
  • Writing for social media: Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and Instagram
  • Writing press releases and promotional material
  • Writing blogs and in-house publications
  • Basic editing principles and tools
  • Ethics in journalism

Our courses combine live online sessions, facilitated by the course presenter, with self-directed online learning.

This course opens before the first live online session and closes well after the last live online session. This allows enough time for you to activate your SUNOnline presence before the live sessions start.

During this course, you will spend your time as follows (this may vary for individuals):

  • one online live session per week of two hours each
  • about five hours per week of self-paced reading and completing tasks, quizzes, activities, and assignments

You will need access to a computer or laptop and a stable internet connection.

If you are a journalist, a social media manager or PR official, the course will be perfect for you. This is not an entry-level course and a tertiary background in journalism or experience working in this field is highly recommended.

You need to attend the sessions and complete all the given assignments. You will receive a certificate of competence after successfully completing this course.

The course fee includes course material, assessments, online live sessions with your presenter and access to the online platforms. You will have access to SUNOnline only if the full course fee has been paid before the course starts.
