Reading – especially academic reading – can be challenging, particularly if you’re overwhelmed by the amount of reading your lecturers expect you to get through. Perhaps you’re disheartened by your test results and concerned about passing a module, or struggle to distinguish which information is important. Maybe you haven’t a clue how to summarise core learning material, and find technical terminology challenging. If you’d like to read and learn with greater understanding, then our FREE Reading Lab coaching service is here to help.
One-on-one coaching
What happens during a coaching session?
You can determine the agenda for each of your sessions depending which reading issue you wish to address or which problem you want to tackle. You can decide on a chapter in a textbook or perhaps an example test or exam paper. Alternatively, your coach can suggest a good starting point for your session(s).
Coaching sessions can focus on any number of reading-related issues, such as developing a reading strategy, reading assistance, developing the skills for the three phases of reading, effective task analysis, making notes, systematic study techniques and time management. Your coach will guide you towards becoming a successful, confident and independent student through a knowledge-building partnership.
How long is a coaching session and when will these sessions be scheduled?
A session is usually 50 minutes so it can comfortably fit into your schedule. Sessions are scheduled at an agreed-upon timeslot from Monday to Friday between 09:00 – 15:00 during the academic semester.
