This twelve-hour workshop is aimed at postgraduate students and researchers in the process of writing an academic article. We will provide you with the opportunity to refine your academic writing skills in an interactive, practical way and help you find solutions to your questions about academic writing in general.

Our presenters are experts in academic writing who follow a practical and interactive approach to learning.
The venue and mode of delivery will be communicated before the workshop.
We will discuss various aspects of writing academic articles with you, such as the different types of academic articles, the components of an article, as well as style and structure. There will be plenty of time for you to work with your own writing, and share your writing experiences.
The twelve hours are divided into eight 1.5-hour sessions spread over four mornings from 09:00-13:00. The mode of delivery (online or face-to-face) will be communicated before the workshop.
If you are joining us online, you’ll need access to a computer or laptop and a stable internet connection. If you are joining us in person, you just need to bring yourself and something with which to write.
Anyone can attend, but the workshop is specifically aimed at postgraduate students and researchers who are busy writing an academic article. We are happy to accommodate all levels of language and writing proficiency.
A maximum of 20 participants can be accommodated in the workshop. The application process consists of two steps: enrolment and registration. The Writing Lab reserves the right to cancel the workshop should there be an insufficient number of enrolments.
A week before the workshop starts, you will receive an email from Selene Delport or Celestia February with a link to the workshop offering on Stellenbosch University’s Short Course Registration System (SCRS). Once you’ve entered your information into the system, you’ll receive an automated e-mail with all the payment details and instructions.
Please note that the full workshop fee will be levied if you cancel your enrolment after the closing date, or if you fail to attend. To cancel your enrolment, please email Selene Delport directly.
You will receive a certificate of attendance from the Stellenbosch University Language Centre once you have completed the workshop and we have received the full workshop fee. Certificates will be issued electronically only.
The workshop will help you develop your academic writing skills to refine your academic article further. The purpose of the workshop is not to furnish you with a recipe or rigid writing ‘rules’, but rather to provide guidelines about writing strategies to effectively convey information, data and arguments.
