This course targets new international SU students and staff, and members of the public with no knowledge of Afrikaans. This is a fun-filled course offering you a linguistic and cultural taste of Afrikaans as a language in a wider cultural context.

Vernita Beukes – Vernita has been teaching for the past 17 years. She loves opening up a new language and culture for students who start learning Afrikaans. She believes in establishing a relationship of trust with her students from the first class and creating an encouraging environment for them to learn as much as they possibly can. She is also enthusiastic about using technology to aid learning.

This course is presented over the course of the semester with face-to-face contact sessions of two hours twice a week. Information and activities will be available online to help students learn Afrikaans. Sessions and tests will be available for students to complete online or in class.
You need a computer, internet access and the module guide.
Any person with no previous knowledge of Afrikaans.

Members of the public and staff are required to register through the SU Short Courses Division website, and will receive a certificate.
Students are to register through the Global Education Programme and will receive credits and a transcript.
