Ukunwenwa kweziphumo zolwimi

Ukuba ungathanda ngokwenene ukuqhagamshelana nabantu, kuphephe ukusebenzisa isigama esintsokothileyo uthethe ngqo le nto uzama ukuyichaza. Ungathanda nokuba ubabulele abantu ngokuthatha inxaxheba. Ngolu hlobo:

“Nanjengoko kungenzeka sele usazi, ukwaziswa koMthetho woKhuselo lweNkcukacha zoMntu (POPIA) kuye kwaqalisa ukusebenza ngokupheleleyo ngomhla we01 kweyeKhala 2021 eMzantsi Afrika. […] Ukuba ungathanda ukuqhubekeka ufumana iileta zethu zeendaba, akukho mfuneko yokuba wenza kwanto kwaye uza kuqhubeka ufumana unxibelelwano olusuka kuthi. Ukuba ukhetha ukulifumani unxibelelwano olu loluhlobo ukuya phambili, uvumelekile ukuba ucofe kwiqhosha lokuphuma elisezantsi kule mbalelwano.

Uyabulelwa ngokuba ube yinxalenye yoluntu esilwakhayo.”

2. Sebenzisa u ‘si’ no ‘yethu’, hayi u‘ndi’ no‘wena’: Dala uqhagamshelwano, hayi ukuqelelanisa abantu.

Sinako sonke ukuba ngumqobo ngokwethu ezindleleni zethu, maxa wambi oko kube kungezonjongo zethu. Abongameli neeNgqonyela zolawulo eziphumeleleyo ziyayazi ukuba eyona ndlela yokusombulula iyantlukwano phakathi kwabantu kukubalisa ibali lobuntu elilula nelimalunga neenqobo esabelana ngazo singabantu. Ukusebenzisa u’si’ no’yethu’, hayi u’ndi’ no’wena’ kwenza uqhagamshelwano phakathi kwabantu, nanjengoko uMongameli uNelson Mandela wayesazi ngelixa wayesenza intetho yokufungiswa kwakhe njengomongameli eyibhekise ebantwini baseMzantsi Afrika neendwendwe zakhe zakumazwe ngamazwe ngomhla we10 kuCanzibe, 1994:

“Izenzo zethu zemihla ngemihla njengabemi boMzantsi Afrika kufuneka zivelise ubunyani boMzantsi Afrika obuza kuqinisa inkolelo yabantu kubulungisa, bomeleze ithemba labo ekubalulekeni komphefumlo womntu ze bugcine onke amathemba ethu obomi obuzukileyo kumntu wonke.

Konke oku sizityala kona thina buqu kwaye sikutyala naba bantu behlabathi ababamelwe kakuhle kangaka apha namhlanje.

Kuthi zintandazwe, andinazintandabuzo ekuthini umntu ngamnye kuthi uncamathele nca kumhlaba weli lizwe lihle kangaka njengoko kuncamathele kuwo imithi edumileyo yejakharanda yasePitoli nemithi yomnga kumathafakazi eli.”

UMandela wayenako ukuthethela u‘si’, abantu ababenokubonwa njengabaneqhagamshela kunye nomhlaba woMzantsi Afrika noluntu lwayo olungabemi, ngokungathaliseki kokwahluka-hlukana kwabo. Obu yayibubuchule benene, kwaye kuthethwa ngokulandelelana kwezinto ngokwendalo, umhlaba, into wonke ubani akwaziyo ukuqhagamshelana nayo.

3. Bulisa umntu ngolwimi lwakhe, hayi ngolwakho. Hlwayela indlela yokucinga engesakhono sokusebenzisa iilwimi ngeelwimi.

Ukubulisa umntu ngolwimi lwakhe kubonakalisa ukuba uyikhathalele ngokwaneleyo inkcubeko yakhe ukuba ude ufunde okuthile okuncinci ngayo, kwaye kukuvulela iingcango ezinokube bezivalekile kuwe.

Nkqu nokubulisa nje okungenani kuyayibonakalisa inkcubeko yethu nendlela esicinga ngayo. Akunjalo kwiinkcubeko zaseAfrika. Ukunqwala intloko okanye uncumele umntu odibene naye ekufoleni umgca okanye esitratweni, okanye u”Molo” nje ohamba yedwa ngaphandle kokuthi “Unjani?” kuye kubonakala kungebuntu eMzantsi Afrika. Isakhono sokusebenzisa iilwimi ngeelwimi simalunga nokungaphezulu kokuzimisela ukufunda nokusebenzisa iilwimi eziliqela nje kuphela. Kukwayindlela yokucinga. Kusixhobisa ekubeni sibe namava ambaxa nahluka-hlukeneyo, kwaye sizibandakanye noluntu ngendlela echukumisa intliziyo, hayi nje ingqondo kuphela.

uSuku lwe Afrika ka2021: Isipho soqhagamshelwano

Inyanga kaCanzibe iqatshelwa njengenyanga yobu-Afrika. Olona suku lobuAfrika lubhiyozelwa ngomhla wama25 kuCanzibe ukukhumbula ukusekwa koMbutho woManyano lobuAfrika (Organisation of African Unity) ekungoku nje waziwa njengoMbutho wobuAfrika (African Union) ngomhla wama25 kuCanzibe ngo-1963. Udonga lwesikhumbuzo sikaPumlani

It is with the utmost shock and sadness that we heard the news on Sunday 6 December that Pumlani Sibula had passed away. He had been recovering from Covid-19 at home.

Pumlani was a valued colleague at the Stellenbosch University Language Centre for many years. He joined the Language Centre in 2003 as the head of the Unit for isiXhosa, where he was tasked with developing isiXhosa terminology for various departments at the University, as well as teaching isiXhosa language and culture to staff and international students.

Pumlani was well known for his passion for isiXhosa language and culture, and for his inspirational teaching. His most notable teaching achievements include teaching isiXhosa Language and Culture for Global Leadership Adventures (GLA) (a winter school programme for high school students all over the world) from 2007 onwards, as well as teaching isiXhosa Language and Culture at Northwestern University in Chicago, USA, in 2009. He received the Rector’s Award in 2009 and 2011. He left SU for a brief period, and rejoined the isiXhosa portfolio in October 2019.

Pumlani’s legacy lives on also in the subject-specific terminologies he developed for isiXhosa in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Law, Economic and Management Sciences, Theology and Engineering. He was also responsible for developing the terminology lists for Soccer, Cricket and Rugby.

On behalf of all of the staff at the Language Centre, I would like to express my sincere condolences to his colleagues, family and friends, and ask that we treasure our memories of Pumlani’s sense of humour, his humility, his love for good food and his passion for language.

We received so many messages and memories from Pumlani’s colleagues that we decided to honour him by creating a wall of remembrance for him on our website. Please take your time to read through the contributions below and remember him.

An online memorial service organised by Pumlani’s friends will be held on Friday 11 December from 15:00 to 18:00. Sonke thina bazama ukuphucula isakhono sethu sesiXhosa ngokungenela isifundo esilungiselelwe isitafu, siyakukhumbula loo nzondelelo kaPumlani, emi phaya phambi kwebhodi emhlophe. Nje umntu wakumbuza umbuzo, uqalisa ukubhala ebhodini ngayo yonke imibala ngokulandelelana kwayo, egcwalisa zonke izithuba ezingenanto. Yayiba luvuyo ke kubafundi bolwimi ngoba uninzi lwethu phambili phaya lwalukhe lwafundiswa ngabo abantetho ingeyiyo eyeenkobe.

Ekugqibeleni olu asilulo na uphawu lwendoda yamadoda: indlela aphila ngayo, indlela aphatha ngayo abanye, kungakhathalisekile nokuba ujongene neentshaba ezinjani ebomini bakhe? UPumlani ebeyindoda ebalulekileyo kwaye undikhumbuza uAnastasia Netri xa le nto indoda eyichaza ngelithi: “Indoda eyiyo iyakusoloko ifuna ukuba ubalasele. Olu shicilelo lukhethekileyo lushicilelo lokuqala ehlabathini olumalunga namaziko okubhala aseMzantsi Afrika. Imixholo yesithuba, indawo namagunya inexesha elide ibalulekile kumsebenzi wamaziko okubhala kwihlabathi, kodwa inokubaluleka okukodwa eMzantsi Afrika nalapho upolitiko lwethu lwexesha lamandulo nelangoku lusebenza ngendlela yokuba isithuba nendawo zibuvumela njani ubudlelwane obusekelwe emagunyeni buqhubeke. Amaziko okubhala akhona ukulungselala ukunika uncedo ababhali abangabafundi ukuba baphuhlise ubuchongwa kwabo ekubhaleni kwezemfundo ephakamileyo, kodwa bakwenza oku ngaphakathi kwezakheko zeziko ezichaphazela ukuba basebenza njani kwaye kutheni besebenza.

I-Woordfees iyaqala ngomhla we-5 kweyoKwindla kulo nyaka kwaye, ngaphandle kwemisitho yethiyetha, ababhali nomculo, kuza kubanjwa neeseshoni ezahlukahlukeneyo nalapho usomlomo eza kukhuthaza abaphulaphuli ukuba babe yinxalenye yeengxoxo. Kwakubakho uthotho lweengxoxo ezazisenzeka yonke imihla ententeni phambi kwe-Wilgenhof. Kwaye kwafuneka ukuba sifumane isitulo eside sepikniki, sigqithise izixhobo zotoliko size sitolike bonke obo bungqina bunika umdla kwaye buchukumisayo – size siphikisane nokulangazelela kwethu ukungabandakanyeki ngokunokwethu! Kuzakuthiwani ke ngoku? Ukuphengulula i-intanethi ufuna izisombululo zokuthintela ukuthi cwaka okwenza ukungonwabi kuveza imfumba yeziphumo, kodwa iimpendulo zivamise ukugxila kwiincoko kunye nabantu ongabaziyo okanye abantu osebenza nabo, hayi amalungu osapho lwakho.
