Description
Facilitators
Our facilitators are experts in academic writing who follow a practical and interactive approach to learning.
Location
The face-to-face workshop (14-16 April) will take place on Stellenbosch Campus. The specific venue for the face-to-face workshop will be communicated before the workshop. An MS Teams invite will be sent to enrolled participants before the online workshop (12-14 August).
Various topics about argumentation will be discussed, such as how to develop your own academic voice and integrating sources effectively. We will also consider different argument structures and discuss how to use them effectively.
The nine hours are divided into six 1.5-hour sessions spread over three mornings from 09:00-13:00. The mode of delivery (online or face-to-face) is indicated with the workshop dates.
If you are joining us online, you’ll need access to a computer or laptop and a stable internet connection. If you are joining us in person, you just need to bring yourself and something with which to write.
Anyone can attend, but the workshop is specifically aimed at postgraduate students and researchers. We are happy to accommodate all levels of language and writing proficiency.
A maximum of 20 participants can be accommodated in the workshop. To enrol for the workshop, please click on the ‘Enrol now’ button below or at the top, and complete and submit the online enrolment form. A week before the workshop starts, you will receive an e-mail from Celestia February or Selene Delport with all the logistical details of the workshop.
Please note that the full workshop fee will be levied if you cancel your enrolment after the closing date, or if you fail to attend. To cancel your enrolment, please email Selene Delport directly. The Writing Lab reserves the right to cancel the workshop should there be an insufficient number of enrolments.
No certificates will be issued but a confirmation letter can be provided upon request.
The workshop will help you develop your research argument, which will enhance your academic writing. The purpose of the workshop is not to furnish you with a recipe or rigid writing ‘rules’, but rather to provide guidelines about writing and argumentation strategies to effectively convey information.
A note on the price: R655 for SU students and staff, R1 310 for external participants.
Any questions?
Any queries regarding your enrolment can be directed to Celestia February.
