Presenters
Our presenters are qualified and experienced English language instructors with specialised skills in preparation for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.
Location
The IELTS Preparation Course is presented online for two hours, twice a week over four to six weeks
(2 hours per week; 25 hours in total). You can study remotely from the convenience of your own home.
On completion of the course, you will be able to –
- skim and scan academic and authentic texts for general and specific information;
- extract information from and make inferences based on texts of varying lengths, such as university lectures, radio documentaries, radio interviews and conversations;
- interpret and compare data in tables and graphs;
- develop arguments and express opinions on abstract topics;
- provide information in a formal interview context; and
- use academic vocabulary related to common topics such as the environment, science and technology, health, energy, transport, education, the arts and media.
The IELTS Preparation Course is a 25-hour, intensive online learning course offered twice a week for 2 hours per session over five weeks. You can study remotely from the convenience of your own home, or face-to-face in Stellenbosch by special arrangement.
As this course is a blended learning course, you will need access to a laptop, or desktop computer with good speakers or earphones and a microphone, as well as internet access for the three video chat sessions with the presenter.
In order to apply for this course –
- you should be able to speak and write English fluently. That means that you need upper-intermediate English language proficiency (CEFR level B2); and
- you may need to complete an online proficiency test before the course starts.
If you do not have the desired level for entry to the course, we will make recommendations on how to improve your English, so that you may be admitted at a later stage.

Acceptance to the course will take place only after full payment of the fee, completed online registration and a copy of your identity document/passport has been received.
On completion of the IELTS Preparation Course, you will receive a certificate of attendance.
This course prepares you to write the exam to obtain an IELTS Certificate. An IELTS Certificate is recognised as evidence of English language proficiency by more than 10 000 education and training providers globally. Having obtained an IELTS Certificate opens up migration, study and work opportunities to English-speaking countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK, as well as for study and work in the USA.
The fee of R4 187 is based on a minimum of three participants.
